Mediation according to MfN guidelines

The MfN (Mediatorsfederatie Nederland) is the independent quality organization for mediation in the Netherlands. All our mediators are MfN-registered mediators. This means that they work according to clear rules of conduct and professional regulations.

A mediation process always begins with the signing of a mediation agreement. By doing so, the parties agree, among other things, that they will:

Make efforts to resolve the conflict jointly
be authorized to make binding agreements
respect the confidentiality of the process

Steps in the Mediation Process

1. Individual preliminary interviews

Prior to the joint sessions, our mediators speak separately with both parties. These conversations are confidential and provide space to share perspectives, concerns and goals.

2. Signing of mediation agreement

During the first joint meeting, the mediation agreement is discussed and signed. With this, both parties agree to the principles of the process.

3. Solution-focused conversations

Under the mediator's guidance, the parties discuss their positions and interests. The conversations are future-oriented, with room for emotions as well as concrete solutions. The mediator guards the balance and provides a safe discussion environment.

4. Record of agreements

Have the parties come to an agreement? Then the agreements are recorded in writing in a mediation final agreement or settlement agreement. This formally ends the mediation process.

In many cases, disputes can be resolved within one to three conversations.

Our mediators are strictly impartial and provide a safe environment to work together on lasting solutions. They decide independently, in consultation with the parties, how the process will be designed. Agreements can be recorded in a mediation final agreement or settlement agreement, which concludes the mediation. Often conflicts can be resolved quickly and effectively within two to three conversations.
We guide the process carefully and respectfully.
